Prayers

News this morning of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Amongst all the grief and misery in the world, one disaster shouldn't stand out above others, but I loved Japan so much on my visit three years ago, and my heart goes out to the people of that beautiful country.

I, too am saying my prayers. I've had an email from my dearest friend to say she is ok. May whatever gods you/we believe in be with them all.

    Hello Heather,

thank you for offering words of support for the people of Japan. It must look like a truly desperate situation from outside Japan. The problems, especially the nuclear power plant fire that is out of control, are extremely serious. The country's search and rescue resources are overwhelmed. This is a resilient country though, something I have sen over and over again over the last 21 years here. I know the people will work together to rebuild and recover.

I just hope that when they do rebuild, they put a lot more thought into reducing the dependence on nuclear power. It is obvious to everybody in the world now that nuclear power in a severely earthquake prone country, or anywhere, is insane.
